Site Templates & Customization
SharePoint on-premises provides powerful tools for creating new sites, starting with pre-built templates. These templates serve as a starting point, and from there, companies can customize their sites to perfectly fit their business needs.
Out-of-the-Box Site Templates
When you create a new site in SharePoint, you can choose from a number of standard, pre-built templates provided by Microsoft. These templates come with a specific set of features and tools already in place. For example, a Team Site template is designed for collaboration, with a document library and a shared calendar. A Publishing Site template, on the other hand, is built for creating a company intranet or a public-facing website. These templates save a lot of time by providing a solid foundation.
Customizing Sites
Once a site is created, companies can customize it in two main ways. The simplest way is through configuration, which is a no-code approach. This includes changing the site’s colors, adding pre-built web parts to pages, and creating new lists or libraries. This method is common for business users. For more complex needs, a company can use custom code. Professional developers can write code to create unique features, custom web parts, or a completely different look and feel that is not possible with standard settings.
Custom Site Templates
To ensure consistency across an organization, an administrator can save a highly customized site as a new, reusable template. This allows them to create an unlimited number of new sites that all share the same branding, features, and setup.
