Permission Levels & Groups

Granular Access Control

SharePoint Online comes with permission levels such as read, edit, and full control. These levels allow administrators to decide who can simply view content and who can manage or customize it.

Role-Based Groups

Permissions are easier to manage when applied to groups rather than individuals. For instance, members of a department can be grouped together and assigned a uniform access level.

Inheritance of Permissions

By default, permissions are inherited from parent sites, but admins can break inheritance to set unique permissions for sensitive libraries or lists.
