Third-Party Integration Options
SharePoint on-premises has a robust ecosystem that allows companies to add specialized functions through third-party solutions. These options can extend the platform to meet unique business needs without having to build everything from scratch.
Apps & Solutions
Many companies sell pre-built apps or solutions that can be installed directly on a SharePoint farm. These are ready-to-use packages that provide specific features, such as advanced forms for data collection, project management dashboards, or specialized document approval workflows. Using these solutions saves a company a great deal of time and money compared to developing a similar solution in-house.
Custom Connectors and APIs
For unique business requirements, a company can have a developer build a custom integration. A developer can use SharePoint’s APIs to create a connection between a SharePoint site and any other business application that has an API. For example, a developer could build a custom solution that automatically creates a project site in SharePoint whenever a new entry is made in a company’s customer relationship management (CRM) system.
Workflow Automation Tools
Before Power Automate was introduced, many companies relied on third-party workflow tools to build complex business processes. Products like Nintex Workflow and K2 provided a more user-friendly interface and advanced capabilities for building complex workflows that were not available in the out-of-the-box SharePoint workflow engines.
